Atlanta has the busiest passenger airport in the United States of America the Harts-field Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which draws over 50 million people annually!

Charleston, South Carolina offers an intimate experience with a southern charm. From cobblestone streets to carriage rides and a variety of historic attractions.

A road trip between Atlanta and Charleston is the perfect marriage of two different icons…both which offer there own unique character.

How far is Charleston from Atlanta?

Charleston, South Carolina is between 4hr 40 mins and 5 hr 20 mins from Atlanta, Georgia depending upon the route. The distance is between 300-352 miles.

Atlanta to Charleston Road Trip Itinerary:

You will want to give yourself at least two days in Atlanta and 2 days in Charleston to really explore what they have to offer. Enroute, we stopped off in Savannah which is pretty nice but quite small so one nights stay here is enough.

  1. Atlanta, Georgia – 3 Days 
  2. Savannah, Georgia- 1 Day
  3. Charleston, South Carolina.  – 3 Days

Highlight: Drive through Savannahs Oak tree lane! 

This will be one the most memorable drives of your life! Meander through oak tree lane and marvel at the ancient Oak trees.  Which are dripping in Spanish Moss…the native Americans called it “Tree hair”.

As you drive off the main road onto oak lane, you will have your breath taken away by this natural wonder!

The speed limit is 15 mph. So drive slow and enjoy the majestic oaks. At the end you, there is a parking lot where you can hop out and take a hike along one of the scenic trails.

Where is Oak Tree Lane? 

Oak Tree lane is located in Savannah just of Wormsloe historic site and is one of our greatest driving roads in the U.S.A

Top Tip: Try driving oak road at night also, for a spooky drive through the oaks!

Fun Fact: Savannah was the birthplace of the girl scouts founder.

5. Atlanta to Miami Road Trip

Miami, Florida is a vibrant Metropolis, treasure trove of culture & true paradise. As the capital of the Sunshine State expect many incredible beaches from Miami Beach to Biscayne Bay.

Head to the everglades nearby to immerse yourself in nature & check out the Alligators.

A road trip between Miami & Atlanta offers many great places to stop from Historic Columbia & Charleston, South Carolina to Savannah, Georgia and the quaint St Augustine (foodie heaven).

There is also Daytona beach, Orlando and even Cape Canaveral where you can see the famous Space shuttles!

You could also make a stop in Orlando which is ideal for some family fun, stop off at one of Orlandos famous theme parks such as Universal Studios or Disney.

How long is the drive from Atlanta to Miami?

A drive between Atlanta to Miami takes approximately 9 hours and 50 minutes without intermediate stops and traffic jams.

This journey covers over 662miles. Of course, the best part of a road trip is the journey and all the great places to stop along the way!

Depending upon your time scale, its best to spend at least a couple of Days in places like Atlanta, Charleston, St Augustine and of course Orlando and Miami.

We did our trip over 20 days and really took our time, but you can do it in less or more depending upon what you wish to see.

4. Atlanta to New York City Road Trip

“The big apple” New York City is one of the most iconic cities in the world, vast skyscrapers dominate the landscape, cultural neighbourhoods are many and the culinary scene is vibrant.

Enroute between Atlanta and New York City you will head through Charlotte, North Carolina, Richmond Virginia, Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia.

New York is 881 miles from Atlanta and takes approximately 14 hours drive without stop offs.

One of best places to sample the best of Philly is at Reading Terminal Market  a Food Market which contains over 80 different food vendors!

It’s the perfect place to try some local Philly foods and baked goods. In addition, to a variety of international foods such as Greek, Mexican, Indian and even Thai!

3. Atlanta to New Orleans “Rock n Roll” Road Trip

Me & my wife recently took a fly drive road trip from Atlanta to New Orleans with stops in places such as Tupelo, Mississippi (Birthplace of Elvis), Memphis, TN and of course New Orleans.

We then looped back around via Mobile and Montgomery Alabama before heading back to Atlanta International Airport to fly home.

How far is New Orleans from Atlanta?

Driving Direct via I-85 S, I-65 S and I-10 W past Montgomery the distance is 470 miles (6hr 42 mins). Other routes range up to 492 miles and take approximately 7 hours 36 mins.

Of course I would recommended stopping of a few places along the way such as Montgomery, Tupelo and Memphis.

1. Atlanta to Las Vegas Road Trip 

Whereas Las Vegas is the city of Sin! Bright lights, casinos and wild entertainment is commonplace is Vegas.

A road trip between Atlanta & Las Vegas will take you from the East coast of the USA, through Musical Cities like Tupelo, Mississippi (Birth place of Elvis ) & Memphis Tennessee, home of Jazz, Soul & Blues to Little Rock & Fort Smith Arkansas.

Onto Oklahoma City, Amarilo and Albuquerque, New Mexico home of Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, the Largest Hot Air Balloon Festival in the World.

From there you can drive to Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona before heading to the Iconic Grand Canyon, Lake Mead and then Las Vegas!

How long is the drive from Atlanta to Las Vegas?

Driving  between Atlanta and Las vegas without stopping would take 28 hours and you would cover over 1,971 miles!

Of course the best part about a road trip is all the great places you can stop along the way!

So we split our trip over 14 days, to take our time and really explore the great cities and states along the way.
