Yoga retreats are quickly becoming the preferred choice of wellness-focused individuals wishing to escape the chaos and experience a transformative reset through movement, meditation, and community.
Sound like a much-needed respite?
That’s because it is!
According to a new Gallup poll, eight out of ten Americans say they “frequently” or “sometimes” experience stress in their daily lives. Chronic stress has been linked to depression and physical disease.
As it turns out, several studies have demonstrated a direct correlation between a consistent yoga practice and reductions in stress levels.
Just take a look at this 2017 study conducted by Swedish Lund University’s Department of Psychology. Researchers took 90 individuals who reported moderate-to-high stress levels and divided them into a group that did yoga for 16 weeks and a group who did not practice yoga for 8 weeks then practiced yoga for 8 weeks.
The results demonstrated that those who did yoga all 16 weeks showed significant decreases in stress, anxiety, and general psychological health, along with significant increases in well-being. The group that did not practice yoga for the first 8 weeks experienced similar results as the control group after they started practicing in the second half of the experiment.
The moral of the story is that yoga might hold a key to living a healthier life. As more people are waking up to its benefits, the demand has soared for yoga retreats around the world, particularly ones in exotic locations that include jungles, tropical beaches, and infinity pools.
Fortunately, you don’t have to travel 9,000 miles to the South Pacific to enjoy a wellness getaway. We’ve got plenty across the United States that might have you wanting to say, “Nah, I’mma stay longer.” See what I did there?
OK, let’s “swan dive” in. OK, we’ll stop!
