Indiana is a fantastic state for family fun, with tons of hiking, golfing, and historical adventures. If you’re looking for indoor water parks, they have several on offer, from resort-style getaways to day play fun.

We’re talking massive slides, racing shoots, river tubing, playscapes, kiddie pools, dump buckets, and more.  There are even a few options for surfing, rock climbing on water walls, and swooping around funnels! 

Below, you’ll find the indoor water parks in and around Indiana that families love and a few outdoor parks that offer cabanas and tons of shade. Whether you’re looking for a family vacation in December or just want to know where you can take the kids for an afternoon, we’ve got you covered!

Big Splash Adventure in French Lick, Indiana, is an amazing indoor water park and resort designed for maximum fun and adventure throughout the property. This 4-star resort is the perfect weekend getaway for family vacations and a great place to spend parts of the summer and winter vacation every year. 

Within the 40,000-square-foot water park, you’ll find the Jolly Roger Jetty, the Pirate’s Plunder, the world-famous Toilet Bowl, the Lost Treasure Lagoon, and the Lost River. The roof over the waterpark is retractable, so it’s open rain or shine. 

Explore Buccaneer Bay, a three-story feature with ten different platforms and over 50 interactive modules, or shoot down the Scallywag Scuttle, a water slide that is completely enclosed with winding twists and turns throughout. Silverbeard’s Revenge is the best way to ride your tube through a spiraling funnel, while the Double Lagoon offers tranquil waters to splash and play the day away. 

Don’t worry, moms and dads. There’s something for you, too! Palm Cove is an adults-only oasis set aside for you to relax in a hot tub and feel the day slip from your shoulders. The littles also have a special place, the Splish Splash Pool, with specially designed toddler-friendly playscapes.

2. Indoor Splash Island

Located inside the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center in Plainfield, Indiana, Indoor Splash Island is a 4.3-acre tropical water park designed to entice the entire family into a day of fun in and out of the sun. 

The beautiful grounds hold three water slides, a giant interactive play area that caters to all ages, a small lazy river, a lily of crossing, pulsating vortexes, ample space for sunbathing and hanging out with the family, and a 900-foot lazy river that is twelve feet wide with dual paths that allow you to douse yourself to cool off or remain relatively dry as you float along on top of your tube. The giant pool is zero depth entry and heated so that the littlest of the bunch can get their splash on, too! 

While the facility is not offering complete rent-outs of the entire park, you can reserve portions of the indoor space for birthdays at a reasonable price for both residents and non-residents alike.

If you’re interested in renting an indoor pool for a private gathering, you’ll find the rates along with the party rentals on their party page. If the outdoor park piques your interest, special time slots are available on Saturday and Sunday in two different sections, Pelican Pete or Splash Gordon. 

On top of offering an excellent place to play indoors and out, you’ll find swim classes and water aerobics inside the Richard A. Carlucci Rec, perfect for building your swim stamina for a summer of fun at Indoor Splash Island or teaching your kids water safety so you can breathe easier while they have a blast. 

3. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is an amusement park with dozens of rides and a holiday-themed water park. It wouldn’t be in Santa Claus, Indiana if it didn’t have a little holiday cheer year round! From Halloween to Christmas, Thanksgiving, and every fun holiday in between, there’s always something special happening at Holiday World. 

While there is everything from roller coasters to family rides, there are also tons of water attractions to enjoy, some of which offer excellent coverage for the littles. Most of the attractions are outside, but what it lacks in indoor amenities, it more than makes up for in variety. 

Check out The Bahari River and Wave Pool, The Bakuli Tube Slide, the Cheetah Chase Water Coaster, the Jungle Racer, Kima Bay, the Mammoth Water Coaster, the Otorongo, Safari Sam’s Splashland, Tembo Falls and Tides, Watubee, the Wildebeest Water Coaster, and the Zinga! 

For even more fun, check out the fully enclosed ZOOMbabwe, the largest enclosed water slide in the world. This 900-foot-long ten story tall slide offers zero light as you traverse through twists, turns, drops, and more. We wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise! Make sure you grab a friend for this one, as you can’t ride it alone. 

The park is open on weekends only during the fall starting in August, but daily in the summer, with firework drone displays, platinum pass holder days, and more. Be sure to reserve your tickets well in advance, as they quickly sell out. Just remember, all times are CST!

Halloween weekend is their last big extravaganza of the year, so mark your calendars and take the family for a day of crazy fun or be ready to wait until that lovely spring weather comes around. 

4. Abe Martin Lodge

Located in Nashville, Indiana, Abe Martin Lodge could be just what you’re looking for if thrilling rides and screaming kids sound like too much. It’s a beautiful lodge nestled in the forests of Brown County State Park with an indoor water park perfect for the littles and bigs alike. 

Take a hike or ride a horse along gorgeous pathways throughout the park before spending the afternoon splashing with the kids and lounging by the indoor pool. There are slides, a lazy river, a hot tub, and a splash ground. Sure, it doesn’t have the pizzazz of the over-the-top water parks available elsewhere, but it has that simple family fun that ensures everyone has a great time together. 

With 84 rooms, a restaurant, rentable cabins, an outdoor pool, a clickable 90 ft fire tower, easy access to downtown Nashville for shopping and sightseeing, miles of trails, and incredible room deals, you can’t go wrong planning a vacation at Abe Martin Lodge.

In fact, in the winter, you can get two for one nights, available from late November to early March. Since the water park is indoors, you’ll have plenty for the kids to do while you sit by the fire once the grounds are blanketed in snow. Even the family dog is invited! 

5. Grand Bear Falls

Everyone in Indiana knows that sometimes you have to cross the border for a day of fun in and out of the sun. Located in North Utica, Illinois, Grand Bear Falls is the getaway you’ve been looking for to feel like you’re having a real water park vacation. 

At Grand Bear Falls, you’ll find a 24,000-square-foot water park with water slides, lazy rivers, gigantic hot tubs, splash grounds, and more. The indoor attraction is beautiful and clean, with warm wooden accents, heated water, dump buckets, and a fantastic concession stand where you can refuel during your day of play.

Even better, if you stay at Grand Bear Falls Resort, admission to the water park is free, and you’ll also have access to the arcade and fitness center. 

One of the best things about this water park is they offer amazing deals that fit every budget. You can get a day pass for $40 per adult and $35 per child, a weekday season pass for only $65, or use one of their discount rates if you’re a military member or senior.

For family packages, they offer fun additions like s’mores kits, and for adults, they have the Toasty Float, a rumchata and fireball root beer float that you can assemble before relaxing in the hot tub. 

If you’re looking for a birthday weekend getaway, the birthday package includes everything needed to make four kids very happy for a weekend of play around the resort, including a special gift for the birthday kid and a voucher for the candy shop. 

6. Tropicanoe Cove

Tropicanoe Cove in Lafayette may not offer an indoor experience, but there is plenty to see and do with ample shade and cool, calm waters. It’s a tropical paradise for kids of all ages, with adult fun sprinkled in for maximum family adventure. 

Tropicanoe Cove is open on Saturdays and Sundays in August, and every day of the week for summer vacation. It offers the Banana Peel Tube Slide for the big kids, Cattail Crik for the parents who want to chill out, the Riptide Racer for those who want in on the competition, and the Tiki Twists for anyone ready for a thrill. If you’ve been before, it’s time to go again! They’ve redone a good portion of the park, updating and adding new water rides to bring fresh fun to everyone. 

The best thing about Tropicanoe Cove is the price. Anyone over 48” tall is only $9, while those under are $7. Season passes can be purchased for $150 and cover three family members, with an additional $50 per other members on the list. With prices like these, you can spend every day of the summer relaxing or daring each other to swoop down the bigger attractions. 

You’ll find umbrellas throughout the park to keep those sun-sensitive babies out of the UV rays, and the water is kept nice and cold for hot summer days. 

7. Carmel Clay Parks & Rec Aquatic Center

Another great choice for outdoor fun with an indoor feel is Carmel Clay Waterpark. With so much on offer, you’ll definitely want to check it out and rent a cabana, so everyone is happy! It’s incredibly popular with the locals, and nearly 100,000 people visited in 2022. 

At Carmel Clay Waterpark, there are two slides with amazing twists and turns, a FlowRider® surf machine with epic waves that push 30 mph, and a kiddie area for the littles under 48” full of interactive splash and sprinkle features with a zero-depth entry pool.

They also have an AquaClimb®, a water-drenched rock wall where you climb as high as you can and then plunge into the waters below, and a lazy river. It’s an epic place to cool down on a hot summer day. 

While the water park is incredible, the cabanas make it stand out above the rest. Cabana rentals fit 6-8 people and include a fan, radio, tables, and a mini fridge. You can’t ask for more than that on a day out with the family! 

They have two sizes on offer, a 12’ by 12’ and an 8’ by 8’. The larger ones are $90 per weekday and $120 on the weekends, while the smaller ones, located near the FlowRider®, are $60 per weekday and $90 on the weekends. Just keep in mind that admission isn’t included in those prices. You might be able to snag a late-day rental for a fraction of the cost after 4 pm, but those are first come, first serve in the afternoons. 

8. Prophetstown Aquatic Center

One water park in Indiana has an amazing back story. Located in West Lafayette in the county of Tippecanoe, Prophetstown is Indiana’s newest state park. The park itself was shaped by glaciers where the Wabash River meets Tippecanoe.

The park is intended to provide an informational and historically accurate representation of the indigenous peoples who once lived on the land and the farmers who tilled it in the 1920s. As part of their new design, they installed an aquatic center complete with a charming water park for visitors. 

Inside the aquatic center at Prophetstown, you’ll find a large body slide, a lazy river perfect for floating along the currents, an adventure channel, a zero-depth entry pool, and a basketball court submerged in the water. There’s also a bathhouse and concession stand tucked inside.

Entry into the park itself is $8 per vehicle or $50 for an annual pass, and the waterpark is an additional $5 per person over the age of 3. This is the perfect place to spend the day learning about history and then sit back, relax, and enjoy the amenities and features on offer. 

9. Splash Universe

Splash Universe is a bit of a drive depending on where you live in Indiana, but it’s entirely worth it. It’s located in Dundee, Michigan, right outside of Detroit, and it’s an exciting water-centric resort with great deals for the whole family. 

Splash Universe water park has over 100,000 gallons of fresh, clean water pouring down slides into pools and tipping out of a 500-gallon splash bucket. The indoor temperature is always a balmy 84 degrees, so you’ll feel like you’re on a tropical vacation. 

There is so much to do at this waterpark that you’ll definitely want to book it as an overnight trip, though day passes are available. The hotel, a Holiday Inn, is set up with kids in mind, with wonderful wooden bunks and themed rooms, king-sized beds for the parents, and a Cabela next door for that extra outdoor feel. 

They have amazing packages for stay and play, day passes, March, April, and May specials, birthday parties, and more. Their stay-and-play packages include different monthly discounts, while their birthday party specials offer 50% off on Fridays. Here’s a quick rundown of what they offer per month. Regardless of when you go, the whole family will have a blast. It’s one of the highest-rated attractions in the area, with fantastic staff, comfortable rooms, and as much fun as the kids can handle. 

10. Pirates Cay Indoor Water Park

Pirate’s Cay Indoor Waterpark, located across the border in Sheridan, Illinois, is part of the Fox River Resort, a family-friendly hotel with an emphasis on family fun. With its pirate-themed features and water attractions, the whole family will say, “Aye, aye!”

At Pirate’s Cay, you’ll find winding tube slides, a lazy river studded with palm trees, dump buckets galore, easy-to-aim water guns, and Pirate’s Perch, a playscape perfect for all ages. The temperature is always comfortable, and it’s open year-round. 

If you choose to stay overnight and want a break from the water park, there is even more on offer in the way of family fun. You’ll find minigolf, a movie theater, an arcade, singing and crafting competitions, and ample opportunities for grilling out poolside. There’s even a lake with watercraft rentals so you can take the family out paddle boarding, pedal boating, kayaking, and more. 

Day pass prices for the water park run $24.95 for adults and $20.95 for kids under 48”. If you’re a guest, you get a discount. Keep in mind that access to the water park is not included in the resort price. The good news is that observers are only $10! 

You’ll find tubes and life jackets available throughout the indoor park, so there is no need to worry about lugging them around. Lifeguards are also on duty at all times. Just embrace the crazy fun and have a fantastic family vacation!
