However, it is essential to know the best time to visit Denmark. Is it in the winter? Or is it best explored in the spring?

The best months to visit Denmark are June, July, and August. During these months, the temperature ranges from 64°F (18°C) to 68°F (20°C), perfect for hiking! September through October will offer plenty of cultural events like the Copenhagen Blues Festival and Aarhus Festival. January is the cheapest month for accommodation with a 19% drop in price.

Since Denmark has plenty of culture and history, there is something fun to do no matter what time you visit. Therefore, it is best to know the most prominent events that happen each month. In this article, we go through a monthly analysis to determine the best time for you!

Worst Time to Visit Denmark

December through February is the worst time to visit Denmark. The temperature is just above 32 F (0 C) during these months. Moreover, the sun sets very early at 3 p.m.!

Since Denmark is so cold and has few daylight hours, it is hard to do many activities. You can still experience fun events during these months, such as visiting the Christmas markets.

Visiting Denmark in the winter may be the right time if you are a fan of indoor activities. However, these months are not optimal for most people as they have fewer activities.

Cheapest Time to Visit Denmark

The cheapest time to visit Denmark is early November and January. However, it may be best to visit in November for more activities and better weather.

If visiting Denmark alone, you can spend $92 per day. It will be needed to limit expenses and possibly take less than ideal flights or accommodation. One-star hotels usually start at $58, while vacation rentals can be $20.

Those planning to visit Denmark with a family of four can spend $328 per day. However, you will need to book flights and hotels in advance to help ensure that the cost is that low. Moreover, it will be best to make any reservations for activities and tours in advance as well.

January: Winter Swimming Festival

January is the coldest month of the year in Denmark. The highest temperature you may see is 37°F (3°C). There will also not be much sun during January and three to eight days of rain.

June through August are the best months to visit for those who prefer to travel in better weather. However, these months tend to have more tourists, so it may not be ideal.

July and August offer the most festivals and events as well. These months will be the best if you want to visit Copenhagen for its festivals and events.

Best Time to Visit Denmark to Avoid Crowds

For those that want to avoid crowds, the best times to visit are May, early June, and September. These months have comfortable temperatures and sunny skies.

Travel costs will also be less during May and September. Therefore, these months make for a great time to travel to Denmark.

Best Time to See Northern Lights in Denmark

January through early March is the best time to view the northern lights. Furthermore, Denmark does not have a season where it is most common to see the northern lights like Sweden.

It is best to visit Denmark when the sky has no clouds. However, that can be difficult to determine since it is only known a few days in advance. Therefore, visiting Denmark for the northern lights is based more on luck than preparation.

On the mainland of Denmark, you can visit the North Jutland Region, Aalborg, or Skagen. Even though it is scarce, these regions have the highest chance of seeing the northern lights.

Those that want to visit other regions of Denmark can visit the Faroe Islands. You will have more chances to see the northern lights from September through April.

Another excellent region you can visit to see the northern lights is Greenland. Some areas to visit are Tasiilaq, Nuuk, Kulusuk, or Ilulissat. You can view them from September through the beginning of April.

Best Time to Visit Billund Denmark

Between March and September is the best time to visit Billund Denmark. These months are when the temperature is best.

From March through September, hotels and flights will become more expensive. This is due to more tourists visiting because of the beautiful weather.

Billund is well-loved by many, and for a good reason. In Billund, you have the opportunity to visit the first Legoland in the world! It is an excellent place for all ages with roller coasters and small rides for younger kids.

For those who want more adventure, Lalandia Billund is a great place to visit in the summer months. It is an amusement park and consists of Scandinavia’s largest water park!

The Vorbasse Market is another interesting place to visit during July. It was first held in 1730 and takes place once a year! There are tents for food and drinks, along with amusement rides.

Best Time to Visit Aarhus Denmark

May and June are the best times to visit Aarhus, Denmark. The temperature is comfortable at 73°F (22°C) in May and June. While in July and August, there will be frequent rain showers.

Since Aarhus is Denmark’s second-largest city, it consists of a wide variety of outdoor activities that you can do in May and June. Moreover, there are plenty of great places to eat outside!

If you are looking for a fun activity with your family, visiting the ZULU Outdoor Movie theater will be a great time! If you want to have a picnic, Tangkrogen will be a great place to do so in May and June.

Best Time to Visit North Denmark

The best time to visit North Denmark is May through September. During these months, North Denmark has the most comfortable weather. The hottest months are June, July, and August.

May and June have meager chances of rainfall compared to other months. Therefore, these two months will be perfect for those that want to escape the rainy season of North Denmark.

Those that visit from May to August will have a higher chance of experiencing increased prices and more crowds. Therefore, if you want to escape the crowds in North Denmark, it is best to visit in September or October. These months will also allow you to travel on a budget.
