The scenic city of Corpus Christi is nestled inside a bay alongside a spectacular island on the Gulf of Mexico. This Texan town is known for its adventurous water sports such as kiteboarding, sailing and windsurfing.

It’s also home to the Windsurfing World Championships. Besides it’s watersports, there are many other things to do and explore in this southern coastal town.

Well-known for its beautiful beaches on Texas’ southern shore, Corpus Christi has earned its nickname: The Texas Riviera. Its beaches have become a popular place for people to vacation and enjoy relaxing in the sun. 1. Mustang Island State Park

Catch some rays at Corpus Christi’s renowned beach while you’re in town! With a 5-mile-long beach front, there is no shortage to scenic water views.

Bring a beach chair and relax to the sound of waves crashing. Or bring your swimsuit for a refreshing swim in the Gulf. There are also opportunities for biking and kayaking at this state park. The possibilities are endless!

If you want to get in the water and tour the waves, there is a Paddle Park Trail located within the park. There are three segments that make up the trail.

These segments add up to 20 miles of beautiful waters. Be sure to rent a paddle board or a kayak to explore this natural wonder.

Camping is also another popular activity at this State Park. There are 50 drive up campsites with full restrooms and showers available for use.

The sites have a view of the Gulf and are a perfect beach getaway. Be sure to call the park to check on beach conditions for camping.

2. Aransas Bay Birding Charters

Get a close look at the famed whooping cranes and other shorebirds with Aransas Bay Birding Charters. This unique tour gets you up close to these beautiful birds.

The boat offers three decks so that you can get different vantage points for viewing the birds. The boats are designed for photographers, so don’t forget to bring your camera! There is also a shaded area for when you need a break from the sun.

They recommend choosing the tour a half hour before sunset if you are a photographer. This gets the perfect light, and you can see when the cranes go out for a feeding. They also don’t run on a set schedule, so you can get the shot you’re looking for.

The tours start at Sea Gun Marina, then to Aransas Bay, and onto Goose Island State Park. The tour ends up at the Intercoastal Waterway where you will enter the Aransas Wildlife Refuge. This is where most of the wildlife is viewed.

3. Treasure Island Golf & Games

Enjoy a round of mini golf at their adventure styled course. On your way out, be sure to pick up an ice cream cone to cool down!

The recommended time to spend here is two hours. It is in a convenient location surrounded by restaurants and souvenir shops. Many locals enjoy the mini golf course, but they mention to check the weather before going so that you can go at a cooler time of day.

4. Red Dragon Pirate Cruises

A Pirate crew takes you out on the waters and gives you a fun, engaging pirate adventure experience. There is cannon fire, sword fighting, and treasure hunting. It’s fun for the whole family!

The boat has a top speed of 12 knots and rides like a luxury cruise. It has state of the art navigation and men’s and women’s restrooms on board. It’s handicap accessible and its smooth sailing qualities prevents sea sickness.

There are also special excursions that you can book through Red Dragon. They offer an adult only sunset cruise. This cruise is 1.5 hours long and has a full-service bar for guests.

6. Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History

Comb through thousands of artifacts at this massive museum. Guests can learn and explore at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.

This family friendly museum is a perfect place to take a break from the sun. Kids will enjoy the touch tables and activities in the HEB Science center. There is also an outdoor play area with benches and picnic tables.

Be sure to check their calendar for special events. The museum offers summer camps for kids with a different focus each week. Themes include subjects like dinosaurs and space.

There is also a new prehistoric exhibit to check out. It teaches you about the giant land and sea creatures of prehistoric times. The Megalodon and Mosasaur are just a couple of the many predators featured.

8. South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center

Enjoy nature at this non-profit center. The 180-acre botanical garden is home to many kinds of plants and flora.

With 13 different gardens within the center, you can spend an entire afternoon walking the paths. Before you leave, take a walk to the children’s playground.

There are also wildlife showings such as reptiles, birds, and parrots. Check the daily calendar for more information on these shows.

You can also request a private animal encounter. Each guest can hold and feed up to three different species of reptile or parrot for an exclusive experience.

You can also take a walk out on the water on the Wetland Awareness boardwalk. You will be able to see wildlife, take scenic pictures, and enjoy the outdoors on this family friendly trail.

There are also opportunities for learning at the center. They offer Saturday morning classes and workshops that vary from gardening to landscape rejuvenation. A free orchid class also meets monthly for questions and discussions on orchid upkeep.

9. Roberts Point Park

Take in beautiful water scenery at this 50-acre park. It serves as the entryway to Mustang Island from the mainland.

Take a quick ferry ride from the harbor to get to the island. Visitors can drive, bike, or walk to this park as it is a popular destination in Corpus Christi.

There are many special events hosted here at the pavilion. Musical performances, fishing tournaments, and private family gatherings are frequently enjoyed here.

This park offers an observation tower that overlooks the ship channel. View dolphins and cargo ships as they go past the channel.

10. Horses on The Beach

11. Rockport Beach

Enjoy watersports or just relax at this 1 mile stretch of beach. The beach doubles as a bird sanctuary and is a great location for a picnic.

There are 65 picnic sites available at this beach, each comes with a barbeque grill and covered table. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed so plan accordingly.

There are playgrounds available for children and fishing is permitted anywhere at the beach. This beach is also the site of multiple festivals throughout the year so check the calendar to see what’s being offered during your stay.

You can choose a ceremony beachside or rent out a pavilion. They have both indoor and outdoor options.

12. Art Museum of South Texas

Spend an afternoon looking over incredible works of art at this interesting museum.The Art Museum of South Texas offers art that the whole family will appreciate.

It has been around for 50 years and prides itself on its art and culture selections. Be sure to check their events page for special exhibitions or events happening.  

There are also hands on opportunities for children. The Artcade Interactive space has a library, art activities, and building blocks for little ones. There is also a youth program that meets here at the clubhouse to create their own pieces of art.

Before you leave, get a bite to eat at the café. Elizabeth’s has a Mediterranean inspired menu with vast views of the harbor. Also, take a peek at the gift shop for a unique souvenir.

13. 11th Hour Escape

A pirate, jungle, and CSI theme are some of the current games available. Cosplay is encouraged for guests so you can get fully immersed within the escape room theming.

Use this experience as a team building activity or just go to have fun with friends. Either way you will enjoy solving riddles, finding clues, and doing puzzles to find your way out of the room.

The easy level is recommended with about 50% completion. If you’re up for a challenge choose expert with less than 10% completion by previous participants.

14. Dolphin Connection

Understand more about dolphins and how they live in the wild with this unique tour. Dolphin Connection gives insight into the daily lives of bottlenose dolphins.

Tours leave from Ingleside Cove and go through the Corpus Christi Channel. On this tour you may also see pelicans at Pelican Island. There are a few tours to choose from that offer different experiences.

If you’re adventurous, be sure to take the Extreme Dolphin Watching cruise and see these creatures as you both venture the waves. For a more laid-back tour, take the morning boat ride to see the dolphins feeding at a nearby island.

Although you cannot feed or pet the dolphins, enjoy seeing these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. There is even a chance to see them leaping from the ocean!

You can also book a 1 on 1 casting lesson or a custom fly-fishing adventure package. Lunch and water are provided on full day charters, while water and ice are provided on the half day excursions. Take your fishing skills to the next level with Coastal Charters. They have been providing fishing charters for twelve years.

They take fisherman of any experience level for a fun filled day out on the water. Everyone over 16 will need a Texas saltwater fishing license. Also, children will need to wear a life jacket when on board the boat.

Depending on the season, you can expect a variety of fish. Mahi Mahi, Blue Marline, and Tunas are found frequently. The summer months is snapper season, and the fall and winter months have Amberjack, Kingfish, and Makos.

Their most popular fishing trip is the deep-sea fishing excursion. These trips go from 8-12 hours and can have up to six guests.

It entails a boat ride into deeper water to fish for larger variety of fish. They supply everything you need for the day including bait, rods and reels, and tackle. 

18. Port Aransas & Mustang Island

19. Texas Maritime Museum

This Museum has a large-scale model of Bullwinkle, one of the largest oil-drilling platforms in the world. It also holds a significant collection of books that focus on maritime topics. 

Kids may tour a boat’s bridge recreation and use a vessel’s wheels. Family Discovery Days are conducted on the final weekend of each subsequent month and are a great time to spend with the entire family.

There are many special crafts that children can participate in for no extra cost. Visitors can enjoy surfing at the beach or explore the Texas A&M campus nearby. Families can get up close to sea creatures in the ocean and stay at the Museum’s connected hotel. 

20. IB Magee Beach Park

IB Magee Beach is an excellent alternative for beachside camping at a reasonable price in Port Aransas. It is among the finest readily available beaches in Texas. 

It has a fishing pier, all the required services, and an R.V. park. It is situated near the city, a short distance from the dock. It is both a charming and soothing location for families, lovers, and lone travelers. 

You may take a walk down the beach, go fishing from the pier, have a campfire party with your colleagues. Or if you have a dog, go to the beach and enjoy some time with them instead. 

If you’re fortunate, you might be able to secure a particularly significant location at one of the park’s big but not isolated campgrounds. Electricity and water connections, penny laundry, and a clean, well-kept restroom with hot baths are just a few of the services offered by the facility.

21. Swantner Park

On the ocean side of the lovely Ocean Drive, Swantner Park is just one of a number of tiny pocket parks. The largest of the minor parks, this one has a paved road for cycling and hiking in the park itself.

Along the edge of the water, there is a walkway paved for pedestrians. Families with children can enjoy a quiet playground area for little ones. Overall, the park is very well-maintained wit plenty of parking. 

This is a nice place to work out while seeing the water, skies, and the occasional bird. A paved route near the river is available for bicycles, scooters, and leisurely strolling.

22. Justice Label Distillery

This location also offers a wide range of beverages and a distinctive array of tastes. If you are in the area and looking for something different, just make that short drive out. Located in Sinton, Texas, it can provide wonderful adult beverages for your next get-together or party.

23. The Sharp Shooter

Cole Park is a city park that is a favorite of birdwatchers; home to egrets, herons, terns, and other species. Cole Park is a kid-friendly parkland ideal for a couple of hours of entertainment. It is situated alongside Ocean Drive in the center of Corpus Christi. 

The coastal park has a sizable playground, an amphitheater, lots of open areas for outdoor activities, and a route for bicyclists, joggers, and pedestrians. Cole Park has grills available if you’re searching for a spot to barbecue. 

On both sides of the park, there is parking available. The Corpus Christi Skatepark, a 10,000 square foot cement skatepark next to the ocean with a street part and bowl area, is also located in Cole Park. Consider attending the Bay Jammin’ Concert & Cinema Series at the amphitheater in the summertime if you’re seeking something a bit less daring.

27. Fulton Mansion State Historic Site

Rising above Aransas Bay and surrounded by stately live oaks, the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site is located in Fulton on the Texas Gulf Coast. It is situated in the county of Aransas. 

It is among the oldest 2nd Empire-style structures built in Texas and one of the most significant Second Empire structures still standing in the Southwest of the United States.

Today, guests can tour the repaired mansion, a Certified Texas Historic Landmark. It is also included in the National Register of Historic Places. Tourists get a unique look into the lives of a wealthy family in the late 1800s. 

Discover George Fulton’s mechanical prowess, stroll through a flower-filled garden created in honor of Harriet, and listen to tales of life in an opulent Victorian mansion. The Education and History Center located behind the estate has a museum shop and interactive exhibitions.

The Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Lexington, sometimes known as “The Blue Ghost,” was constructed during World War II for the American Navy. It has contributed significantly to the country’s security for almost 50 years. 

The USS Lexington is a priceless national asset. The oldest known aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington, landed in Corpus Christi Beach in 1992 as a consequence of vigorous charitable activities and resounding support from the community. 

Since then, it has functioned as a naval aviation museum, educational center, and well-liked local tourist destination. The USS Lexington has always been completely self-sufficient.  It has never accepted money from municipal, state, or national government organizations since it opened as a naval aviation museum. 

The Museum’s sole source of funding has been grants, donations, entrance fees, sales from the ship’s store, special events, and the youth overnight program. These earnings have paid for all costs associated with running and maintaining the ship as well as financing any major enhancements.

The goal of the museum is to educate its visitors and provide an entertaining experience. The general focus of the exhibits is naval aviation. Learn how the aircraft carrier played a major role in national defense of the United States.

The Texas State Aquarium is a not-for-profit association. It is a valuable educational resource for locals and travelers in Corpus Christi. Admission costs and donations keep the doors open at this location.

32. Chute ’em Up Parasailing

Chute’em Up Parasailing is a must-do list item when visiting Corpus Christi. The exhilarating experience has been described as similar to flying first class.

33. Padre Island Surf Camp

The Whataburger Field has been around since 2005, when it was built for $25 million. The home team is the Hooks, owned by the Houston Astros.
