Can You Bring Shaving Cream On A Plane? (TSA Rules & Regulations!)

Traveling is fun and adventurous! Planes are an amazing form of travel as they allow us to see different parts of the world and allow us to see the world from a different perspective. Although, while we’re on this adventure we typically like to look our best.

So, for those of us who care to remove hair from our bodies, a question we might have is, can you bring shaving cream on a plane?

According to the TSA, shaving cream is allowed onboard aircraft in both checked luggage, and carry-on luggage. Shaving cream is considered a liquid and must be less than 3.4oz (100 ml) for carry-ons and stored in a sealed, Ziploc bag. For checked luggage, you can transport less than 2kg (2L), not to exceed 18oz for checked luggage.

Let’s take a deeper look at the rules and regulations that the TSA has for taking shaving cream with you on the plane. This will help you know what to expect when traveling.

All shaving creams, lotions, oils, and gels are all considered liquids by the TSA. As you are probably aware, there are several limitations when it comes to flying with liquids.

In carry-on bags, any object which you can squeeze, compress, smear, smear, spray, or pour must adhere to the TSA liquids regulation.

This essentially means that the container can't be much more than 3.4 oz in weight (100 ml). Also, your shaving cream must be packed in a quart-size bag that’s sealable and able to contain liquids.

It’s a pain to transfer the shaving cream from one container to the other. So, stores have started selling little travel-sized, TSA-friendly shaving creams. You can find them in places like Walmart, near the travel items in the personal bath and body section.

Is Shaving Cream Allowed in Checked Luggage?

Yes, shaving cream is allowed in checked luggage. Aerosols in general are typically not allowed aboard aircraftHowever, shaving cream is considered a necessity as it is technically a toiletry which is why it is allowed.

But, you need to keep in mind that even though it’s checked luggage, there is still a size restriction. Shaving cream in containers larger than 18 oz is prohibited. However, you won't usually have to worry about that because standard shaving foam arrives in 7 oz cans.

You can always purchase a pack of empty bottles to fill with your shaving cream if you wish. However, you need to make sure they’re leak-proof, and acceptable by the TSA. Otherwise, all this work will be for nothing.

Just remember that, as stated above, shaving cream is considered a liquid. So regardless if you have it in an aerosol can, or a squeezable plastic bottle, it still needs to be in a clear plastic sealable bag.

Can I Bring Full Size Shaving Cream In My Checked Baggage?

For your peace of mind, always remember that any item that is harmful or poses a threat to the safety of passengers or the airplane will not be permitted by the FAA or other protection authorities.

It is unquestionably vital to take some measures, such as correctly packing your shaving cream and ensuring that it does not spill or overflow.

If you're only bringing a small amount, the easiest location to put your shaving cream is in your toiletry bag and carry it on the plane.

Otherwise, if you're bringing a full-sized shaving cream or aerosol greater than 3.4 oz / 100 ml, it's recommended to put it in your checked luggage.

Certain varieties of razors are allowed on board, while others are not, according to the TSA. Disposable razors, replacement blades, and electric razors can be carried on or packed into checked baggage.

However, a TSA agent can confiscate your belongings at any time if they feel it threatens the safety of the passengers, crew, and aircraft.

Taking all of that into consideration, it’s best to stow your razors away in your checked baggage. That way, you’ll have them for your trip and don’t risk them being taken away.

Your particular airline will have its rules about combined amounts of liquid. So always check their policy before checking your bag so that you don’t risk having anything thrown away!

People typically want to bypass having to pay for checked baggage fees. However, sometimes that fee and service is the best choice when you travel with highly-questionable items. You’ll spend just as much, if not more, replacing those items thank you would paying the baggage fee.
